Ireland Deports 35 Nigerian Nationals, Including Children
Ireland has repatriated at least 35 Nigerian citizens among them five children via a chartered flight that departed Dublin Airport on Wednesday night and arrived in Nigeria on Thursday.
As reported by the Irish Mirror, the group included 21 men, nine women, and five minors. Irish Minister for Justice, Jim O’Callaghan, stated he was pleased to confirm” the return of the individuals to Nigeria, despite an unexpected stopover caused by a medical emergency onboard.
Although the Irish government did not disclose the specific grounds for the removals, O’Callaghan emphasized Ireland’s commitment to a structured immigration policy. Ireland operates a rules-based immigration system. It’s vital that these regulations are both strong and consistently applied, he said.
Meanwhile, the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) claimed it was unaware of the deportation operation carried out by the Irish authorities.
NiDCOM spokesperson Abdur-Rahman Balogun revealed this to Punch Diaspora Tales on Thursday.
