In a candid interview on Channels Television’s Politics former Transport Minister Rotimi Amaechi declared that while President Muhammadu Buhari didn’t fulfill every ambition, his tenure still outshone that of President Bola Tinubu in nearly every metric. He emphasized that Buhari’s leadership excelled in security and maintaining the independence of institutions particularly the electoral commission unlike the current administration, which he argues has eroded that autonomy.

Amaechi didn’t mince words when discussing the economy. He accused Tinubu’s government of burying Nigeria’s economic foundations, pointing out that true economic progress must translate to improved livelihoods and more money in citizens’ pockets not just fiscal “savings” from policy shifts like subsidy removals and floatations.

His critique extended to the visible failures of Tinubu’s leadership. Amaechi ridiculed the President’s recent inauguration of a mere 16-kilometer road, arguing that such a task should fall to a local government chairman not the head of state.

In a more pointed expression of disapproval, Amaechi stated:Buhari’s government is 100 times better than Tinubu’s. He lamented the current hardships Nigerians face such as exorbitant diesel costs and surging power bills and questioned how the current government’s performance in alleviating hunger and managing basic utilities could be squared with Buhari’s tenure .
