Five Dead, Fifteen Injured in Residential Bomb Blast in Kano

A devastating explosion rocked a peaceful Kano neighborhood earlier today, killing five people and injuring fifteen others. The device detonated inside a residential area in Kano’s Sabon Gari district at around 9:30 p.m., shattering windows and igniting panic among residents.

Eyewitnesses said the blast occurred close to a cluster of family homes, sending a powerful shock wave through the street. One witness, Ahmad Gaya, described the scene. There was a thunderous roarwindows blew out, walls shook, and everyone ran for cover.

Emergency services and bomb disposal teams arrived swiftly at the scene. Local police spokesperson Commissioner Sama’ila Dikko confirmed that five victims were found dead at the site, while fifteen others were rushed to nearby hospitals with varying injuries.

Authorities are currently exploring several possible causes, including the detonation of an improvised explosive device (IED). Though initial claims suggested a suicide bomber was involved, police are yet to confirm this. Commissioner Garba, the state’s Information Commissioner, emphasized that investigative officers are yet to determine whether the explosion resulted from foul play or an accidental cause such as a gas cylinder.

Nearby schools and shops were temporarily closed as authorities cordoned off the area and examined debris for evidence. Forensic experts and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) are assisting the investigation.

According to Saharareporters,The Kano State government has appealed for calm, assuring residents that crucial safety measures will be stepped up. Residents of nearby districts have voiced growing anxiety and demanded increased patrols and screening at checkpoints.
