Violence Disrupts APC Ethiope West LGA Congress in Delta State

The APC Congress in Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State was disrupted today following reports of violence at the event.

The congress, which was originally scheduled to take place at Oghara Township Stadium, was later moved to another venue in Ovade within the local government area. This sudden change reportedly created tension among party members.

The situation became more serious when the Member representing Ethiope Federal Constituency, Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, arrived at the new venue in Ovade. Reports say she was denied entry into the congress venue by some individuals believed to be political thugs.

Her supporters were also reportedly attacked with dangerous weapons during the incident, leading to injuries among some party members.

Security personnel attached to the lawmaker were able to prevent further escalation as tensions continued to rise at the venue. Some injured persons are currently receiving medical treatment at undisclosed hospitals.

The development comes at a time when there were expectations of peace within the party following a recent stakeholders’ meeting held in Asaba. However, the latest incident has raised fresh concerns about unity within the party at the local level.

Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu has called on APC supporters and members in the area to remain calm despite the incident. Meanwhile, there are growing calls on security agencies to ensure the safety of party members and prevent further attacks.

Party members are also urging relevant authorities to take necessary steps to restore peace and order within the local government chapter.
